Now
using Outlook Express or Netscape or Eudora or any other email-client,
send an e-mail with C:\KAK.HTA as an attachment. eScan will
immediately catch this Hypertext Attachment.
Try the above with any other software and they are bound
to fail.
TEST 2:
Assume you have a POP3-account "test" with password
called "test", on a host mycompany.com. Access this
account using telnet (telnet mycompany.com 110) and access this
account (using USER <username>, PASS <password>
and RETR <messagenumber> commands).
Check the eScan Log files & you will find that the message
you retrieved using TELNET was scanned by eScan!.
Try TEST 2 with any other software and you will find that
they DO NOT scan your emails.
TEST 3:
Create a content-filter inside eScan. To do this:
1. Right click on the green 'e' icon;.
2. Click on "Start eScan content administrator";.
3. Click on the "Admin Menu" & Select "eMail
Content Scanning";.
4. Click on "Enable Content Checking";.
5. Type a phrase "XXX" and click on Add.
6. Click on Save.
7. Close eScan Content-Administrator window.
Now using Outlook Express or Netscape or Eudora or any other
email-client, send an e-mail, typing "XXX" in the
body of the message. eScan will immediately quarantine this
e-mail.
Try the above with any other software and they are bound
to fail.
TEST 4:
Create an uncompression-filter inside eScan. To do this:
1. Right click on the green 'e' icon;.
2. Click on "Start eScan content administrator";.
3. Click on the "Admin Menu" & Select "eMail
Attachment Control";.
4. Under "Configure Compression/Decompression" Frame;.
5. Click on "Uncompress inbound attachments".
6. Click on Save .
7. Close eScan Content-Administrator window.
Now send yourself an email with a ZIP file attachment from
any of your free email accounts (like hotmail, yahoo, etc.)
Download this email inside your Outlook Express or Eudora.
And you will find your ZIP file automatically unzipped when
it reaches your inbox.
Try this with any other software and they are bound to
fail.
Test 5:
To test the eScan File Rights feature (NetBIOS firewall):
Activating the feature :
Note:- If eScan is installed in client mode, eScan file rights
would be enabled by default.
To enable the eScan File rights feature, Please follow the
below mentioned steps:
1. Right click on the green 'e' Icon in the system tray.
2. Click on "Start eScan Content Administrator".
3. Click on the "Admin Menu" & Select "Remote
Access File Rights".
4. Click on "Remote Access File Rights".
5. Click on Save.
6. Close eScan Content Administrator.
Testing the feature: On another system, please
do the following
1. Open NOTEPAD
2. Type a dummy line for e.g.."This is a test line"
3. Click on The File Menu
4. Under "Configure Compression/Decompression" Frame;
5. In the "Save in" box, please select the name
of the system where eScan File Rights feature is activated
6. In the "File Name" box below, please type "test.eml"
(Without the quotes)
7. Close eScan Content-Administrator window
Alternatively you can also use the below mentioned file names
test.rar
test.scr
test.nws
test.ocx
Observation : Since the eScan File Rights feature
is active on the remote system, eScan does not allow you to
create this file.
OR
Open the Autoexec.bat on the remote machine and Please enter
some extra lines/entries and try to save the file, it would
not allow you to save the contents you've typed while eScan
File Rights is enabled on the remote system.
Test 6:
To test the eScan Popup Filter feature
Activating the feature :
To enable the eScan PopUp Filter feature, Please follow the
below mentioned steps:
1. Right click on the green 'e' Icon in the system tray.
2. Click on "Start eScan Content Administrator".
3. Click on the "Admin Menu" & Select "Popup
Filter".
4. Click on "Block Popup".
5. Click on Save.
6. Click on "Test Popup".
OR
6. Open your default browser and for e.g. type
www.mid-day.com & try visiting the site.
Observation : You shouldn't be able to see any
pop-ups coming from this site with the eScan POP-UP Filter
enabled. To confirm this you can also check the "History
Logs" in the "PopUp Filter", you will observe
all the log entries related to the blocked popup windows,
in this case www.mid-day.com.
Test 7:
To test the eScan Webpage Scanning feature:
Activating the feature :
To activate this feature please follow the below mentioned
steps:
1. Right click on the green 'e' Icon in the system tray.
2. Click on "Start eScan Content Administrator".
3. Click on the "Admin Menu" & Select "Webpage
Scanning".
4. Click on "Active" Radio button.
5. Click on Save.
Note:- At this time if your browser is open
,you have to restart the browser for the feature to come into
effect.
6. Close eScan Content Administrator.
7. Please open your default browser.
8. Visit www.google.com.
9. And type the word "sex" or "adult"
& click on the "Google Search" button.
Observation : eScan will block access to this
page since its a restricted word.
To completely block internet access
1. Right click on the green 'e' Icon in the system tray.
2. Click on "Start eScan Content Administrator".
3. Click on the "Admin Menu" & Select "Webpage
Scanning".
4. Click on "Block Web Access" Radio button.
5. Click on Save.
Note:- At this time if your browser is open
,you have to restart the browser for the feature to come into
effect.
6. Close eScan Content Administrator.
7. Please open your default browser.
8. Try to browse any internet site.
Observation: eScan will not allow any internet
access since the "Block Web Access" feature has
been activated.
